Australian Scientific is pleased to introduce the new A&D Moisture Analyser Series, a comprehensive lineup of six heat-drying moisture analysers designed to meet the needs of laboratories, production facilities and quality control environments across Australia. Whether your application demands high-resolution moisture determination or reliable day-to-day moisture testing, this series offers a model to match your requirements and budget.
The range includes two advanced touchscreen models (MS-74AT and MX-53AT) and four cost-effective reverse backlit LCD models (MS-74A, MX-53A, MF-53A and ML-53A). Every model in the series is built around A&D’s proven halogen heating technology and Super Hybrid Sensor (SHS), delivering the speed, accuracy and reproducibility required for professional moisture analysis.
How Does a Halogen Moisture Analyser Work?
A halogen moisture analyser determines moisture content using the loss on drying (LOD) method. A sample is placed on the integrated weighing pan and its initial wet weight is recorded. The powerful halogen lamp then rapidly heats the sample, causing moisture to evaporate. The instrument continuously monitors the sample’s weight throughout the drying process and automatically calculates the moisture content as a percentage once a stable dry weight is reached.
This approach offers several advantages over traditional laboratory oven drying. Halogen heating provides significantly faster analysis times, often completing measurements in minutes rather than hours. The process is entirely reagent-free, reducing operating costs and eliminating chemical waste. Results are highly repeatable and can be directly correlated with reference oven methods, making halogen moisture analysers a practical alternative for routine quality control and compliance testing.
Key Features of the A&D Moisture Analyser Series
All six models in the A&D Moisture Analyser Series share a core set of features that distinguish them from competing instruments on the Australian market. These instruments sit alongside our broader range of balances and lab scales, extending A&D’s reputation for precision weighing into dedicated moisture analysis.
400W Halogen Heater with Secondary Radiation Assist (SRA)
Each model is equipped with a powerful 400W halogen lamp that delivers rapid, high-speed heating across a temperature range of 30°C to 200°C in 1°C increments. A&D’s proprietary Secondary Radiation Assist (SRA) technology ensures uniform heat distribution across the entire sample pan surface, which is critical for achieving consistent and repeatable results. The SRA system also provides built-in lamp protection, extending the operational life of the heating element.
Super Hybrid Sensor (SHS) Weighing Technology
A&D’s Super Hybrid Sensor combines electromagnetic force and load cell technologies to deliver outstanding precision and reproducibility. The MS-74AT and MS-74A achieve weighing readability down to 0.0001g, while the MX-53 models offer 0.001g resolution. This level of precision is comparable to a dedicated analytical balance, allowing the instruments to detect even small changes in moisture content.
Optimum Temperature Search (RsTemp)
Determining the correct drying temperature for a given sample type is one of the most important steps in moisture analysis. The RsTemp function, available across all models, automatically identifies the recommended drying temperature for your sample material, reducing setup time and improving result consistency. This feature is particularly valuable for operators working with unfamiliar sample types or multiple materials.
Programmable Measurement and Preset Programs
The touchscreen models can store up to 300 customised measurement programs, while the LCD models support up to 200 user-defined conditions. In addition, all models come pre-loaded with over 100 preset programs covering common sample types, so operators can begin testing immediately without extensive method development. Heating patterns include standard, ramp, step and quick heating modes to accommodate a wide variety of sample characteristics. For full program details, refer to the product brochure available in our downloads section.
GLP/GMP/ISO Compliance and Data Management
All A&D moisture analysers in this series produce GLP, GMP, GCP and ISO-compliant output, including time and date stamps, instrument identification, calibration data and measurement records. The touchscreen models store up to 3,000 measurement results with comprehensive history tracking, while the LCD models store up to 200 results. User access control (UAC) with password management and permission settings provides an additional layer of data security and traceability.
Industry-Leading 5-Year Warranty
Every A&D moisture analyser purchased through Australian Scientific is backed by A&D’s industry-leading 5-year manufacturer’s warranty, providing confidence in long-term instrument reliability and reducing total cost of ownership. Our support team is available to assist with any warranty or service enquiries.
Model Comparison: Choosing the Right A&D Moisture Analyser
The A&D Moisture Analyser Series is divided into two categories: advanced touchscreen models for laboratories requiring maximum functionality, and reverse backlit LCD models for environments where cost efficiency and core performance are the priority. Browse all models on our Moisture Analysers category page.
Touchscreen Models: MS-74AT and MX-53AT
The MS-74AT and MX-53AT feature a 5-inch colour touchscreen interface with intuitive navigation and real-time graphical feedback during measurements. The pressure-sensitive display allows reliable operation even while wearing thick laboratory gloves. These models include exclusive touchscreen-only features such as thermal analysis mode with up to five drying stages, automatic drying-time estimation, a sample mass calculation tool, a sample pretreatment guide and a plastic measurement guide for low-moisture samples. Multilingual support covers 11 languages including English.
LCD Models: MS-74A, MX-53A, MF-53A and ML-53A
The four LCD models deliver reliable performance with a streamlined interface and high-visibility reverse backlit display. With four different levels of readability available — from 0.001% moisture content resolution on the MS-74A through to 0.01% on the MX-53A, 0.05% on the MF-53A, and 0.1% on the ML-53A — the LCD lineup supports applications ranging from high-precision analytical work to routine production testing where moderate accuracy is sufficient.

Applications: Who Uses Moisture Analysers?
Moisture analysers are used across a wide range of industries in Australia where accurate moisture content determination is critical to product quality, regulatory compliance or process efficiency. Common applications include food and beverage manufacturing (testing moisture in grains, dairy products, baked goods and ingredients), pharmaceutical quality control (ensuring active ingredient and excipient moisture levels meet specification), chemical and plastics production (monitoring moisture in resins, pellets and polymer materials), environmental and agricultural testing (soil moisture content, feed analysis), mining and minerals processing, and general laboratory research.
The A&D Moisture Analyser Series is designed for these demanding applications. Features such as the preheating function, sample pretreatment guide, and plastic measurement guide for low-moisture samples (available on the touchscreen models) provide specialised support for challenging materials that require careful preparation and analysis. Laboratories already using A&D analytical balances or compact portable balances will find the A&D moisture analysers integrate naturally into their existing workflows and weighing procedures.
